Washington DC is America's living civics lesson — the White House, Lincoln Memorial and the world's largest museum complex, the Smithsonian, almost all free to enter.
Plan My TripWashington DC is one of the world's great capital cities — planned from scratch on the Potomac River and designed to impress. The National Mall alone concentrates more world-class monuments and free museums than most cities have in total.
The Smithsonian Institution's 19 museums and galleries are entirely free to enter. The Library of Congress, the US Capitol and Arlington National Cemetery are among America's most moving and significant sites. DC rewards unhurried exploration beyond the tourist trail.
