When to Visit San Francisco & How to Get Around

Best Time to Visit

September–November is SF's best weather: warm (18–22°C), clear skies and the Golden Gate free of the famous summer fog. Indian Summer is peak season.

May–June is mild and clear before the July/August fog sets in. The city is lively with outdoor events and the parks are at their best.

December–February is cool and wet but manageable (10–14°C). Fewer crowds and excellent hotel rates. Museums are quieter and restaurants easier to book.

Getting Around San Francisco

Cable cars & historic streetcars are the iconic way to navigate the hills. A single ride is $8; a 1-day Muni pass is $24 and covers all transit.

BART connects SFO Airport to downtown in 30 minutes (~$10.65). Within the city, Muni buses and metro lines cover all major sights.

On foot & Uber work well — the city is compact but hilly. Rideshare is the best option for late nights or reaching non-walkable areas.
